Roadmap

Ports first, then the engine underneath

What is playable now, what is coming, and where it is all heading. We list no dates until we can keep them.

Now: the apps

Released

  • OpenMW (Morrowind engine): Playable in browser, WebGL2 (WebGPU path in progress), 60fps, persistent saves, File System Access loader for user data.
  • FreeCAD: FreeCAD 1.1.3 on wasm64: every workbench, FEM solving in the tab, shared sessions and an MCP endpoint. LGPL.
  • Jagged Alliance 2: Stracciatella engine, full campaign, tactical combat, Web Audio and UI, plays off original game data.

Preview

  • QGIS: QGIS Desktop 3.40 LTR, full Qt Widgets application compiled on Qt 6.9 wasm multithread.

In development

  • Blender: Blender 5.2 LTS. The interface, viewport and renderers run in the browser on WebGPU. In development, not yet released.
  • idTech 3: Open-source idTech 3 engine, recompiled, targeting the open-source Quake III Arena assets as a free example world.
  • Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast: 2002 Raven Software GPL source, Ghoul2 skeletal characters, saber, Force, in browser.
  • Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy: 2003 Raven Software GPL source, same engine family, browser port.
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein (SP+MP): 2001 id Software GPL source, browser port. Multiplayer over a WebSocket relay, no native server needed.
  • Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory: 2003 id Software GPL source, browser port, browser-to-browser multiplayer over a WebSocket relay.
  • OWASP ZAP: Real ZAP jar on a real OpenJDK compiled to WebAssembly (CheerpJ 4.3), with raw sockets over Tailscale-WireGuard-over-WebSocket.

Next: shared dependencies

Every port needs the same native libraries built for WebAssembly, and most of the hard problems repeat. We keep that work as a library of build recipes, known failure modes and case studies, and we plan to publish it so other people can start their own ports from it.

Later: a WebAssembly engine for 3D

Our long-term goal is a high-performance runtime for running existing 3D software in the browser. We are still working out the details, including how it will be licensed, and we will say more once we have measurements to show. Until then, the ports are the evidence for what it needs to do.

Follow along by RSS, on the news page, or in Discord. Support keeps the ports free and moving: see how.
