Virtastic Write - Get Involved (Read-Only)

Get Involved

Virtastic is a small open-source collective. We take big desktop programs, compile them to WebAssembly, and keep them running in the browser. Everything is public on GitHub, and there is room to help whether or not you write code.

The projects

Each one has its source, a contributing guide, a code of conduct and an issue tracker.

Help without writing code

  • Play and test. Open an app in Chrome, Edge or Brave on a computer and tell us what breaks: what you did, your browser and computer, and what you saw. Testing finds what we can't see on our own machines.
  • Improve the manuals. Spotted something wrong, unclear or missing in a manual? Open an issue on that app's repository and say what should change.
  • Tell people. Share the link to an app you enjoyed. Every window on this desktop has its own address.

Help with code

Each repository's contributing guide explains how to build it and send a pull request, and several manuals include a build guide. Issues labelled good first issue and help wanted are the place to start. If you don't see one that fits, ask on Discord and we'll find you something.

Talk to us

The Discord is the fastest place for questions, screenshots and builds in progress. Bugs belong in the project's issue tracker, so they don't get lost.

Fund the work

If the apps are useful to you, you can support them on Patreon or Ko-fi, monthly or once. Donations pay for the server that hosts the apps and for development time.

What we're working on

The Roadmap shows where every app stands, and News lists every release as it ships.
