OpenMW-Web v1.6.4
Released October 20, 2026
These fixes were already live on the hosted server; this release brings them to self-hosted ones.
Seyda Neen no longer freezes when you step off the ship. A bug in 1.6.3’s file-cache timeouts switched off the game’s file cache in every session, so nothing was kept between visits and walking into town could freeze the game for up to half a minute on the first visit. The cache stays on now, and the background pre-load fills the main game archives before sounds and music, so the town is ready when you get there.
Pressing F2 no longer stops the game. F2 opens OpenMW’s post-processing panel, which the browser version can’t use, and closing it could crash the game for good. In the browser it now just says the panel isn’t available.
Setup checks what it needs before it starts. ./setup.sh now checks for git, curl and unzip up
front and prints the command to install them on your system (it used to stop halfway, at the engine
download). A Docker “permission denied” now says how to add yourself to the docker group instead of
saying Docker isn’t running.
Play Morrowind in your browser. Prebuilt WebAssembly engine - unzip the web bundle, run python3 server.py, open desktop Chrome. See SELF_HOSTING.md.
